Hey friends! I’m writing you from Orlando, where we are excitedly wondering if the tropical storm in the Caribbean will turn into a hurricane and hit us on Thursday. Thursday also happens to be my birthday, so lots of things happening. I’m back on tour for one more month, four one weekers will take us through Orlando, Charlotte, Memphis, and New Orleans. It’s wild to think that this chapter will be ending soon, but I am so excited to get back home and settle into something resembling a routine again.
It’s been a light writing week, what with my canvassing and saying goodbyes to friends so instead of pumping out an article this week I’m instead just going to ask you all a favor. As a birthday present to me this week, do something. Maybe that’s donating, or letter writing, or phone banking, or even just texting a friend. But let this be the catalyst you’ve been waiting for!
Or, just let me know something you enjoy about Gay Buffet! Writing can sometimes be a lonely, one-sided process so it’s great to know what resonates with folks!
Summer Reading!
Below is a nice little recap that Substack wants me to use, and since it’s a prewritten article, I am indeed succumbing to their version of Spotify Wrapped. But it’s been a fun summer of reading. I love substacks because they let me digest things that I want to on my own time and are helping increase my long-term attention span and my critical thinking. I feel like Substack is my antidote to our dopamine algorithms on social media.

Talk to you next week!
All my love, Aidan!
Dear Aidan,
In my 55 years of gay activism, I’ve marched, pamphleted, passed out condoms, and attended countless meetings. I carried the flag and led the 10th Anniversary Gay Pride Parade in 1979. I was in the room when same-sex marriage was decided. Whenever people ask me about the state of the gay movement these days, I mention you and Casey. Your relationship represents the ideal I fought for for so many years. I’m so proud of you both and so happy to know you. Have a Beautiful🎂Birthday and Glory in your Love. You’ve earned it.
love, Bill
