Steps from the imposing lions of the New York Public Library is a small, unassuming room where a different kind of knowledge is about to be doled out. Within its cozy walls are a few tropical plants, an operating chair, and the soft beats of the newest Tate McRae. As I walk down the narrow hallway, I’m greeted by my host, Chris Bustamante, affectionately known on the internet as @injectorchris. He leads me inside the room, where I shake hands with a pantsless Liam (a pseudonym), already lying flat on a sleek, black operating chair.

I’m there to watch Liam get GirthFill™ and ScroFill®, the trademarked names for penis filler and scrotum filler, respectively, at Lushful Aesthetics, a premier aesthetic clinic where these procedures have been meticulously perfected.

Liam is one of five patients Chris will see that day, as the number of men looking for ways to enhance their sexual organs climbs rapidly. But public sentiment around the topic remains stubborn. Many people have strong beliefs rooted in stigma and miseducation, and as I wrote about two weeks ago, we all have complex relationships to our own flaccid dicks.

So, I wanted to explore what some well-placed pricks can really do, not just for one’s package, but their self-esteem, confidence, and maybe even their lives. After watching this procedure, how would I feel? Could I ever strip down my pants and my guard to entrust my body to Chris’s careful needles?

A Soft Serve

When Chris first reached out to me about this project, I knew that I was the perfect foil for this piece. I grew up in the middle of the forest, a wild child immersed in nature, raised by a mother who put the fear of god in me about toxins, chemicals, and any other health scare. I’ve never had filler or Botox, even though I’ve been curious about the latter for years.

But this summer has been a big one in regard to soft dicks. From my trip to the nude beach back in July to my piece two weeks ago about the politics of soft dicks, I’ve learned that there’s a lot more to unpack than one might think.

And even if male sexual enhancements may not be common, the number of men who are insecure about their flaccid dick size is. And while most men say that they don’t care about the size of someone else’s dick, it’s much harder to shake that feeling about your own. This is where dick filler comes in. Not only does it affect the size of the erect penis, dick filler also affects the flaccid size, adding about a half inch of girth and stopping the retraction of the muscles when soft, giving a fuller look and bigger bulge.

That’s why I needed to see Chris in action.
